More on Questions

An important point about questions that I forgot to mention in the last post is their place in studying and reading these books in the first place. I appreciate St. John’s emphasis on discussing the texts first and foremost, and in particular, on asking questions. It’s easy, especially for many over-achieving students, to get caught up in making assertions and claims, having to be “original” immediately. Asking questions, rather than just jotting notes verbatim from the text or immediately trying to impose an interpretation, is so important in trying to really get at the meaning of something that you are studying.
